As-Siraj School for Blind Girls is a charitable boarding school intended for refugee blind girls, especially those who lost their vision as a result of the war in Syria. The visually impaired girls are provided educational and rehabilitation courses to help them to learn skills to adapt to daily life with their disability and to open up future opportunities through education for them.
As-Siraj School for Blind Girls is located in Istanbul.
It is a wonderful repurposed location that was originally a spacious and attractive villa with a large terrace and beautiful garden, and it has been adapted into a comfortable and well-organised boarding school.
The school is located in a beautiful area that provides the girls a comfortable and tranquil environment that will support them in their journey at the school.
We aim to:
- Teach how to read and write Braille
- Teach the usage of electronics, including mobile phones and computers
- Teach essential daily life skills including personal hygiene and dressing, cooking/meal preparation and cleaning, mobility, use of public transport, and money management.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
1- There are 15 resident young girls currently undergoing rehabilitation and receiving an education at the school.
2- A student completed her baccalaureate and joined university in September 2023 to study Islamic Studies.
3- We currently have 3 students studying to achieve their baccalaureate in Summer 2024.
4- Our Headteacher is providing regular online distance learning to non-resident blind students.
